The centerpiece of our efforts in 2013 is a planned weeklong map-sport festival in August in Bend, Oregon. The Pacific Northwest Orienteering Festival may encompass the annual Orienteering USA Convention, the U.S. Individual Championships, and other high profile, world-class events. The list of parties who have expressed interest in teaming up to produce this unique and memorable festival includes Orienteering USA, the Columbia River Orienteering Club, Meridian Geographics, Get Lost!!, and Visit Bend. The festival will build upon and expand the image of Bend as the premier active-outdoors destination of the Pacific Northwest.

More than 500 participants from the U.S., Canada, the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Eastern Europe, Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and other nations are expected to attend. If you are a sponsor and are interested in this audience, please contact Glen Schorr, Executive Director, Orienteering USA, for inquiries about the sponsorship package.

National (A) Championship Events

We plan to host an Ulralong event in March, most likely in the Sacramento/Sierra Nevada Foothills area. We will also host one or two national-level MtbO events.

In addition to a 24 hour rogaine in the spring at Henry W. Coe State Park, encompassing terrain quite different from what we plan to use in 2011, we will most likely launch one or two other areas, and host another 24 hour event in Northern California in the fall. We also plan to expand our rogaining initiatives to other areas of the U.S., most likely the Midwest.

Sprint Festival

And last but not least, we plan to continue the biennial tradition of elimination Sprints. We have identified enough new terrain in San Francisco and environs to host another high-quality festival along the lines of those in 2009 and 2011—but perhaps it's time for the show to travel to your city?! Contact us and we'll make it happen!

We always welcome proposals from adventure racing and orienteering clubs, and Convention and Visitor Bureaus/Chambers of Commerce, to jointly develop map navigation events.
